Many workforce management environments rely on dedicated timeclocks. Installed at key entry points, these fixed devices are built for high-volume use, long-term reliability, and consistent performance. They do exactly what they’re designed to do – provide secure, accurate time capture day after day.

But not every employee works in the same environment. Temporary job sites, customer-facing spaces, branch offices, and mobile teams can all create situations where a wall-mounted terminal isn’t the most practical option. These are the areas where traditional timeclocks may not provide complete workforce coverage.

GT Tablet doesn’t replace what’s already working. Instead, it extends workforce management capabilities into locations where a dedicated terminal may not be necessary, using hardware many organizations already own.

What Is GT Tablet?

GT Tablet is an application available on iOS, iPadOS 17 and above, and Android 12 and above that transforms a compatible tablet into a fully functional workforce timeclock. There’s no additional hardware to purchase and no installation project to manage. Once registered through GTConnect, a standard tablet can be used for employee clocking with PIN authentication and facial recognition capabilities.

The facial recognition engine is built for large workforces, handling accurate identification at volume without slowdown or error. GT Tablet integrates with leading payroll and workforce management systems, while GTConnect’s remote viewing and log-streaming capabilities enable remote support and troubleshooting.

For payroll accuracy, workforce visibility, and compliance reporting, GT Tablet delivers the same high-quality time-and-attendance data as a dedicated terminal.

GT Tablet and Dedicated Timeclocks

The GT4, GT8, and GT10 are dedicated workforce management terminals designed for demanding environments. They are built for continuous operation in high-traffic locations such as warehouse entrances, manufacturing floors, and healthcare facilities where reliability is critical and downtime isn’t an option.

Dedicated terminals (GT4 / GT8 / GT10): These are purpose-built for continuous, high-volume use in fixed locations. These devices include hardware-based security features such as encrypted storage, secure boot technology, and permanent wall-mounted installations. They support optional fingerprint and facial recognition authentication, while the GT10 also offers advanced kiosk and employee self-service functionality.

GT Tablet: A workforce management application running on an existing iOS or Android tablet. It supports PIN and facial recognition clocking, integrates with workforce management software, and can be managed remotely through GTConnect. Because it is portable, it can be redeployed as operational requirements change while remaining unobtrusive in customer-facing environments.

The important distinction is that dedicated terminals and GT Tablet serve different purposes. A dedicated timeclock is a long-term infrastructure investment. GT Tablet provides the flexibility to extend workforce management into locations where fixed hardware may not be practical.

Where GT Tablet Delivers the Most Value

GT Tablet is particularly well-suited to organizations that manage a mix of fixed-location employees and workers who operate across multiple sites, customer locations, or temporary facilities.

Retail

A GT8 manages employee clocking in a stockroom environment for warehouse and fulfillment teams. On the sales floor, GT Tablet can run on a tablet already being used for point-of-sale operations, adding workforce management functionality without introducing additional hardware into the customer environment.

Healthcare

GT terminals manage clocking at key staff entrances and primary access points throughout a healthcare facility. Community-based teams, outreach workers, and employees operating across multiple locations can use GT Tablet on a device they already carry, with all attendance data feeding into the same workforce management system.

Construction and Events

Where fixed infrastructure isn’t practical, such as on temporary job sites, for seasonal operations, and pop-up venues, GT Tablet provides accurate time capture without requiring permanent installation. As the site moves, the tablet can move with it.

Branch Offices

Smaller locations often don’t justify deploying dedicated hardware. GT Tablet provides the same core clocking functionality while reducing infrastructure requirements and simplifying deployment.

How GT Tablet Supports a Flexible Workforce Strategy

GT Tablet works as the flexible layer that dedicated timeclocks were never designed to be. Where your workforce environment has gaps – temporary job sites, mobile workers, customer-facing locations, and smaller offices – it extends accurate time capture using hardware that is already available or easy to deploy.

It doesn’t displace the GT4 on a warehouse floor or the GT8 at a main employee entrance. It covers the areas that those terminals don’t reach, connects to the same platform, and delivers the same quality of workforce data for payroll, compliance reporting, and operational visibility.

A complete workforce management environment isn’t built around one device or one clocking method. It combines dedicated timeclocks and flexible solutions, deployed where each makes the most sense.
